You might be surprised to know that I have a business coach. After all, I am a mentor, coach & adviser to hundreds of individuals, families & small businesses, right?
I’m known to draw on lessons from the sporting world to help me convey my message, and this is no exception. In AFL terms, Alistair Clarkson is almost unanimously regarded as the greatest coach of the modern era. But even Al, the elite in virtually all facets of being an AFL coach, spends copious amounts of time learning from other coaches of various backgrounds.
Finspective invested in a coach to fine-tune our business and help us be better coaches to our clients. Our business coach is Stewart Bell from Audere. The funny thing is, I didn’t find Stu. I didn’t even know that business coaches existed, but more on that below.
If you’re a small business owner (of any age or size), here are a few key reasons why you should get a business coach.
You’re not good at everything; you can’t be.
I noted above that I didn’t find Stu, let alone know what a business coach was. I became his client because he set a trap for me to become his client. His lead-generating system targets businesses like Finspective, creates a need for a business coach and ensures that all roads of enquiry lead to him. It’s borderline sorcery, but it is brilliant all the same.
Finspective now has resources and a plan to cover our expertise or experience gaps. This included attracting clients we want to work with, hiring awesome staff and removing our administration inefficiencies.
They’ve already solved your business problem.
A business coach’s job is not to be a specialist in your field. Still, they’ve undoubtedly worked with businesses like yours and solved your problems hundreds of times.
They might also identify a few big ones you didn’t realise existed.
A business coach can be like a gun for hire, quickly solving business sore points. This saves you worrying about any barriers, putting off or spending time to solve them yourself.
They’ll have a bunch of tools, apps & resources ready to implement.
Whether it’s a document template, excel spreadsheet or implementing better technology, starting from scratch can be loathsome. The implementation of tech recommended by my business coach has been a game changer.
Like a business chemist, a business coach will have excel spreadsheets, applications, templates, and other tricks ready to take off the shelf.
They’ll help you make better decisions
A business coach is invested in a business reaching its business goals and will become part of your leadership team. They can sit at crucial business meetings with the luxury of being able to contribute opinions with inside knowledge but without emotional attachment. This different perspective is often invaluable, helping you to avoid pitfalls led by emotional blindness.
Your staff will love you for it.
A business coach may provide additional services & resources to your broader team. Whether your staff want to reduce their workload by creating efficiency or advancing their career progression, a business coach is a great value ad. Even the best coaches have coaches. An internal business coach resource also differentiates against other businesses competing for new employees.
If you’d like to know more about my journey to getting a business coach or how to find one for you, drop me an email. I’d love to get you started.
